Andrew was trained as an historian and has worked for most of his career as a public servant. Since 2009 he has been the CEO of the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority. He has held fellowships at universities in the UK, the US and Australia. He is a Trustee of Action for Children.
He has written on public policy, British history and national identity. More recently he has been writing about illness, disability and personal identity.
