Steve Caires
Steve Caires, founder of engrish.com, started to collect Engrish items back in 1987 when he first went to Japan as a student. Over the course of ten years living in Tokyo as both a student and a ‘salaryman’, he would frequently bring Engrish candy, gum and other small items back with him to the US as gifts for friends. In 1996, when the worldwide web was just starting to become mainstream, the thought of compiling ‘Engrish’ in a website was a natural extension of his collection and engrish.com was born.
Engrish.com now attracts more than 8 million new visitors a year.
Steve’s book The Joys Of Engrish was published in December 2005 by Michael Joseph/Penguin in the UK, and January 2006 by Tarcher/Penguin in the US.
