About the Agency
The Rupert Heath Literary Agency was founded in 2001, and is a member of the Association of Authors' Agents. The agency's home is at 50 Albemarle St in London, formerly the premises of John Murray Publishers. We represent the finest in writers of both fiction and non-fiction. In addition to over a decade of negotiating deals for our authors with the most successful publishers worldwide, we believe we offer an unrivalled level of editoral and promotional support to our clients.

Since its inception, the agency's authors have been published by distinguished imprints such as Arrow, Aurum Press, Bloomsbury, Bodley Head, Canongate, Century, Da Capo Press, Dutton, Egmont, HarperCollins, HarperPress, HarperStudio, Headline, Hodder & Stoughton, It Books, Michael Joseph, John Murray, Orion, Penguin, Quadrille, Random House, St Martin's Press, Sceptre, Simon & Schuster, Tarcher, Tindal Street Press and Viking, as well as countless publishers in translation.

While books remain the centre of what we're about, we aim to represent all aspects of our clients' writing careers. This means we also handle film and dramatic rights for our clients, as well as being involved in speaking engagements, merchandising, ebooks and all kinds of new media rights. The world of publishing is always changing, but the zest for good, original writing remains a constant.

Rupert Heath (literary agent)
Rupert studied History of Art at the Courtauld Institute of Art, and worked in the art and fashion industries before joining the publishing world as a commissioning editor, most recently at Pan Macmillan. He founded the Rupert Heath Literary Agency in 2001, and is interested in writers of commercial fiction, including historical, crime, thrillers and sci-fi, plus cutting edge literary fiction. On the non-fiction side he is looking for works of history, biography and autobiography, and popular science, as well as books about nature, politics and current affairs, humour, popular culture, and the arts.

Diana Beaumont (literary agent)
Diana spent nine years as senior commissioning editor (fiction and non-fiction) at Transworld where she published many bestselling authors. Earlier, she read English Language and Literature at Oxford University, then went on to work at Thames & Hudson and Hodder & Stoughton. After Transworld she became a freelance editorial consultant and script doctor. Her clients have included leading literary agents, publishers and authors. Her particular interests include quality women's commercial fiction, historical fiction, crime fiction, accessible literary fiction, lifestyle, cookery and memoirs.

Submissions
We accept submissions from new writers, and we prefer to receive them via email.

We do read the many letters and manuscripts we receive. Eventually. Sadly, there just aren't enough hours in the day to respond to everything that comes in. We'll only get in touch if we really like something.

You will increase your chances of a positive response if you take the time to find out about the agency, the kind of projects we favour, and the way in which we assess new work and prefer it to be submitted to us.

For further advice you might want to take a look at Sex, Lies and Book Publishing, an ebook which describes our view of the publishing trade, and how you can really get an agent and publisher.

Once you’re ready, please send us an introductory message, telling us a little about yourself and the work you'd like to submit. Email us.
