Lynette was born and raised in Opelousas, Louisiana. She is of pure Cajun descent on both sides of her family.

She has studied at Millsaps College, Glasgow University, and the Center for Writers at the University of Southern Mississippi.  There she was taught by Frederick and Steven Barthelme, and Mary Robison.

Lynette is currently working on her first novel. She lives in New Orleans.
